The Only Place to eat a AUTHENTIC GARBAGE PLATE.
I've been going there time and time again. I have also been getting to know the staff and have found them very friendly. This is a place you have to check out at least once to try a garbage plate. Its not extremely clean but not dirty. Plates cost $5 on special days when there is a fundraiser so ask the staff about possible upcoming fundraisers. Its a Rochester landmark. go. And go soon because they close at 8pm. Also they do not deliver and there is no need to order ahead for takeout. The place has lots of character.

The original garbage plate.
I have a lot of memories of this place. We went there 4 nights a week back in the 80's. A woman of the evening stole my wallet there one time. I was there when a food fight broke out, The place was packed with drunken white kids at 3 AM and it was a blast. They used to have guys sitting in chairs peeling potatoes for the home fries. The guys at the counter would move to the next person if you didn't order properly, like the soup guy from Seinfeld. I love Nick's and will always remember it.
