Back in my good graces.
This place has been around for about twenty years, formerly as Carl's. out front "Been here 20 years. In the former Red Rusotti's Rochester Bakery building (talk about good baked goods), Carl and his sister Diane moved from a restaurant downtown and set up shop in what looked like a diner. It was named Carl's Country Kitchen the D&C reviewed it highly. They said that the only country in the name came from Italy. It was set up with booths in the front of the store and a lunch counter. You couldn't get a seat there without waiting. This was the sauce that I measured all other Italian eateries by. The best! I suggested that he have it bottled up like every lesser establishment seems to have done. I could drink this by the cupful, or so it seems. Whatever I would order there would have to have a dish of sauce with it. Pork chops, steak give me sauce to dunk it in.
The homemade Italian salad dressing is excellent. Lasagna, homemade sausage, meatballs, pieces of pork or beef with pasta all are great. Homemade pasta is also available. Great homemade soups, a different variety daily. Diane's homemade cakes and pies are out of this world. Somewhere Carl's Country Kitchen was remodeled into LaMartina's and tried to be fancy but it is still a diner. There are daily specials that include barbecue ribs, pot roast, chicken ala king, stuffed peppers, beef stew you name it and eventually it will show up on the specials someday. Fish fry on friday either breaded of battered. Delicious sandwiches and burgers are also on the menu. If it;s not on the menu just as and Diane will try to accommodate you. Very friendly atmosphere where you feel right at home.
