Great local food - void busy hours.
I cannot believe some of the reviews. Domonics is indeed overcrowded beacuse it's so good. So don't come on Friday or Saturday night. Come early on Tuesday for the Spagetti special when the crowd is lighter. I also have known it since the days of Cinellis and live in the neighborhood. The food is fresh, authentic. Nothing is pre-cooked, pre-packaged or left over from yesterday. Again, the reason why it's so packed - is the great food and reasonable prices. Is it tight quarters? Hey! It's a local bistro! If it was NYC we'd be calling it quaint and giving it another star. As to the sauce. Again, I grew up in Italian Charlotte and know sauce - their's is pretty darn good.
BAD SERVICE AND BAD FOOD. I live in the area of Mr Dominics. I have always had to wait for a table over an hour even with reservations. One night i went in there to order take out and the bartender ignored me for about 10 minutes. He was busy chatting up a young girl at the bar. I finally interrupted him. Apparently he didn't like that. I asked him about ordering food at the bar and he rudely told me the hostess handled that. He refused to take my order. I did order a drink, paid for it and went outside to their tables on the porch. The next time I went in there the same bartender was there and he yelled at me and told me I had not paid a previous tab. He did this in front of a room full of people, calling me names and embarassing me. I did go to the owner and the owner told me he back what his bartender said and the treatment that I received. I did find out later that this bartender was the son in law of the owner. I know they have a big following and this probably won't make much of a difference to their business. Be prepared that when you go there, if you are not a member of their family or not italian you might be treated as an unwanted guest.
worst italian food I have experienced in a long time. this place is definitely overated, I have not been here in many years, went there on my birthday, wednesday, 8/22/07, the sauce taste like the spaghettiOs my kids use to get in grammar school, this was the side , so I tasted my friend's ravioli to see if the sauce tasted the same and much not to my surprise it was the same as the side of pasta, my veal saltinbocca was not the best I have tasted, and to top off the night there was a party of 6 sitting across from us who proceeded to turn look at my friend who was wearing a cowboy hat and snicker, they went to the bar after their meal and when we walked past them at the bar as we left one of the gentlemen in the party make a comment which I did not like, I walked back to him and said excuse me, what did you say and he tried to say something else and I told him to keep his comments to himself, they were a bunch of arrogant fools who I am sure frequent the place. The only good thing I have to say about the place is the catering as we have had them numerous times to cater picnics and the food was always great, maybe the people who are in charge of the catering shoud be in charge of the restaurant, and what reataurant would tell you the house dressing is crumbly blue and not tell you but if you order it there is a $1.00 charge for each person that orders it. GO FIGURE. Jackie
Enjoy an off night. Outstanding food but too popular for it's own good - crowded seating and a rushed feeling on a Friday night. Still, the food is outstanding and has had me coming back since it was Cinelli's!
