Demeaning treatment by owners and salespeople.
I had been a regular customer, and I purchased quite a few items over time. Although I cannot afford the highest end clothing, I did buy several expensive pieces,. I do, though, ordinarily, shop at this store when there are sales - and I never missed the annual sale. Because I am not a regular highest end purchaser - and they know it - I feel that I do not get the same kind of serve as do the elite crowd - mostly from Pittsford. I teach college and am probably more highly educated than anyone in the store, but I am treated like a low life... The absolute most humiliating experience of my life was when I purchased a silk Eileen Fisher shell - probably on sale (which isn't cheap even on sale). The salespeople gave me a sample packet of special (gentle) washing detergent sample to take home at the same time. It turned out that I had to wash the garment sooner than expected because there was a spot on it. I had worn it only once. In short, the detergent left the area faded - very visibly so.. and it was in the front of the top.. I returned the top and explained what had happened. I asked if they would consider an exchange - I didn't even ask for a refund... They were reluctant (which shocked me) said they had to check with the owners, and could I leave the top with them and come back.. When I returned they said that the owners thought I had somehow damaged the top or somehow was responsible for the problem, and that it looked like I wore it more than I admitted.- and that they would not give me a refund or exchange.. I was SO humiliated... I could not believe that, after being a customer for years and having purchased quite a few things, they would accuse me of doing something dubious... Sounds similar to the other comment about being accused of shoplifting..
I vowed never to step foot in the store again. And I find the owners and some of the salespeople of other high-end boutiques in Rochester - like "B Younique" equally as condescending and insulting. I have stopped going to these stores - I still buy high quality and high fashion clothing - but I do it mostly on line. The atmosphere in these stores quite frankly, sickens me.
A different point of view. Do not treat you well if you have problems with a product.
terrible store.
I had been a shopper for years at A Different Point of View. It was one of my favorite store, until a couple of years ago. I attended the annual sale that they have in the beginning of January where they sell Vera Bradley, Kate Spade, etc. I had with me a new purse that my grandmother bought as a present for Christmas ...... go figure a Vera Bradley fan at a Vera Bradley sale. On my way out the door I was accused by the "security" that I had stolen my bag. It was absolutely humiliating. I had to defend my self by trying to find a stain or something to prove it was my bag originally. How sad is that?
I understand that at a sale like that they need to protect their inventory and that it is chaotic. But they acted like snobs and could care less about wrongly accusing me..... shop here if you would like to be humiliated.
