Move over Silken Show Pony, there's a new gal in town....
Through an alignment of stars, I found myself on the doorstep of the Lyndon R. Huttemann Salon on Empire Boulevard...
After opening the front door, I entered the salon and transported back to a time of sitting rooms and tea... James greeted me warmly, and welcomed me by taking my coat. He offered me a selection of teas or a glass of cold water to refresh my palate. As it was late in the day, the coffee service had ended, however I could see on a brisk winter morning cozying up in the welcoming reception area with a mug of coffee and enjoying some witty repartee with James...
After a brief wait (I got there early) Lyndon came out and introduced himself. I was brought to the salon by a couple of recommendations from friends, so I explained my connections and we talked about my recent relocation to the Rochester area. A super-friendly guy and very very welcoming to his space...
Shortly thereafter, Charlotte came out and greeted me with a warm smile and a firm handshake. She took me back to the shampoo area (which in this renovated house was where one might find the dining room if the house were used in its originally intended way) and got to work.
Charlotte is outgoing and friendly -- we conversated through the shampooing and through the entire haircut.
Having just gotten married, I had let my hair grow out for over a year. I was ready for a rebirth and Charlotte delivered (no pun intended!!)
With a snip snip here and a snip snip there, my overgrown hair fell away and my new do revealed itself. A delicately layered shoulder length bob with just enough face-framing bangs... perfection.
I am so excited to have gone here, and have met this wonderful family -- I can't wait for my hair to grow so I can go back...
And in addition to hair cuts and such, they offer a full slew of spa services including nail services, waxing, airbrush tanning, skin treatments and massages.
Why go anywhere else?!
I Feel Like a Silken Show Pony.
For the first time in many weeks, Rochester actually had a ray of sunshine today. I thought that was a good omen as I tiptoed into my first haircut in five years at a salon. I had 3 foot long hair that was in dire need of a good cutting for spring. Lyndon's salon is located in a charming historic house planted on a hill overlooking empire boulevard and was easy to access from 590 north. The fabulous remodelling job he did is attractive and appealing right from the moment you step on the stone walkway to the long porch and inside the inviting space. James greeted me and gave me a little tour. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, giving off none of the aloof vibe of larger salons. The intimate setting is perfect for me, it felt like I was having some beauty time with a few friends. Even clients feel relaxed with one another, and that comraderie makes the visit all the more enjoyable. Lori gave me a wonderful smelling shampoo and moisturized my tremendous mop of hair and then snipped away all those split ends and dried out tips. My complaint has always been that despite having long, healthy hair with a good colour, its never looked shiny like a shampoo commercial. I want to flip my head around luxuriantly! I want the wind to whip through my hair like some Palamino galloping down a beach! Lori didn't think that was too much to ask, and in no time she had smoothed my hair to a glassy sheen with all those annoying fuzzy spots on top gone. It feels healthy and light and although its considerably shorter now, I feel like it looks 10 times better!
As Lori was working, Lyndon and James were chatting with everyone and working in the same room. The sun was warming the room, fragrant shampoos filled the air, and the earthy feel of wood beams and potted plants everywhere made me feel as relaxed as sitting on the porch on a sunday morning. I would recommend this salon to anyone who wants to feel cozy and beautiful.
This Salon and Spa as well as all the services are Decedent!.
The new location of the Lyndon R Hutteman Salon and Spa on 214 Empire Blvd is very convenient from all locations. When I walked on the large porch of this restored historical home, through the French doors the only word I could use to describe what I saw was decedent! I was greeted by Gia, the receptionist. I knew if I walk out looking ? as good as she does I was in for a real treat! Her haircut is smashing, her skin and make up was flawless. She was very friendly and cheerful. She hung my coat for me and poured me a hot cup of coffee. I only enjoyed the beautilful reception a few minutes.
Elise my Esthetician promptly took me to her sound proof room. One look around I notice she took the time to decorate to give the feeling of being serene while still professional. She was very thorough on checking if I had any allergies and talk to me about my likes and dislikes of prior services elsewhere, as to make sure I enjoyed her services to my fullest. She gave me total privacy while I got comfortable in the heated bed. She then came in and proceeded to give me the most luxurious spa services ever. I was totally relaxed. When she finished I was already looking forward to making my next appt.
Afterwards I was given plenty of water to dehydrate while Lyndon sat me in his chair where he consulted with me in regards to my hair. I was impressed that he really listened to what I was saying. Lyndon gave several great suggestions. He then proceeded to give my fabulous highlights and impeccable cut. His finish was also fabulous. The next day when I blew dry and flat ironed my hair it just fell right into place. It looks marvelous, no matter how I do it! I am a professional woman and I have received compliments on my hair.
Thank you Lyndon for providing Rochester with a Salon and Spa that has knowledgeable staff that are true professionals who make you feel welcome. Your salon is exquisite and has great ambiance.
Great haircut. Lori has been cutting my hair for four years and now that I have moved out of state it is going to be hard to replace her! She is great. My hair happens to be short and she knows just how to texterize it with the jagged front, lift at the crown and thinning it around my ears and nape of neck. I have always felt so beautiful whenever I leave her chair. Since moving, I went to a salon that was touted as #1 in the area and they certainly don't have the haircutting skills that Lori does. My daughter who has longer hair also went to her and Lori shaped her hair beautifully. Lori always surpasses expectation and can give you something a little different every time.
