Excellent Mexican food!!!

After living in Houston, Tx for over 8 years I can honestly say that this is the best mexican cuisine my husband and I have ever tried. We went in at 3:30 pm on a Saturday. We had excellent service, attentive and prompt. Our drinks were refilled regularly. We came in with a party of 5 and everyone tried something different and everything was so flavorful. Kudos to the owners and chef! We highly recommend!!!

• Pros: Flavor, service and amount of food served
• Cons: Having to pay for extra chips & salsa

Go anywhere else

My girlfriend and I usually go to El Parian for Mexican food, but it was closed last night, so we went to Salena's. The service was very friendly (if slow), and the atmosphere was nice. That's about all I can say to the positive.

There was very little vegetarian selection (not even fajitas), it was about twice as expensive as any other Mexican restaurant in Rochester, and the taste of the food simply doesn't compare. The Margaritas are expensive ($6/glass, $18/half-pitcher) and a bit strange tasting (no sour mix).

As long as there are any other Mexican options in town, I probably won't go back.

• Pros: Friendly service, outdoor seating, has a bar
• Cons: Expensive, not tasty, poor vegetarian selection, slow service

love it, especially our favorite waiter, Mischa

I can't decide what I like best about Salena's - the best waiter, Mischa, who brings out my sweet potato fries before I even ask, and always remembers the wine I like, the cute bartender who makes a great Margurita, or the most fabulous sweet potato fries in their own chipolte sauce that you will ever ever taste. My friends who know Mexican say it's the best in Rochester - friendly atmosphere, great food and nice people!

Terrible service, ruined birthday!

Once upon a time, I really loved Salena's (prior to the new location). However, after my last experience I would NEVER EVER go back. I went to Salena's for my birthday with some friends and dinner was a total disaster. We had to beg for chips and water from a hostess because we didn't see a waitress for over a half an hour. When we finally did see a waitress, she took our drink orders and disappered for another half an hour!! The waitress gave us nothing but snotty attitude and bad service. When we finally got our food after 2 HOURS it had been sitting under the warming lights for so long that the food was burned to the plates. It was disgusting. I would much rather have the old interior and good food than a nicer decor with bad food and worse service. If you want good and authentic Mexican food check out Paola's!!

Simpley the best

Hands down, Salena's is the best Mexican Restaurant in Rochester. Great food and service. Best chips in town. If you have not been to the new and larger location, you must check it out. I suggest the steak taco and the black bean burritos with the mole' sauce.

• Pros: Food, service, value, CHIPS!
• Cons: on a busy night the parking may not be close, but there is plenty of free parking.

Good mexican!

I recently went to Salenas and I think the new location is great! The food is still as good as ever, and the staff is exceptionally nice. We ordered our usual chimichangas and margaritas and although this isn't Mexican-Mexican food, it is the best Mexican-American food around - prices are very reasonable, too.

• Pros: lots of seating in the new place
• Cons: parking can be an issue at village gate when it is crowded

Best Mexican food in Rochester

We went to Salena's several times over the years and the food was always delicious. In fact, it's the only Mexican restaurant in Rochester with authentic Mexican food. The prices are very reasonable and the servers are very pleasant & attentive. The owner is also a nice guy and he has a great sense of humor.
